Motorsport UK is pleased to announce an agreement with Base Performance Simulators (BPS) to utilise their state-of-the-art technology in a further step towards supporting and developing the driving and coaching talent within UK motorsport.
MOTORSPORT UK TEAM UP WITH BASE PERFORMANCE SIMULATORS
Wednesday, 31 May 2023
Located just 20 minutes away from Silverstone in Banbury (Oxfordshire), BPS is led by Aston Martin factory driver and three-time Le Mans winner Darren Turner and has both a single-seater and GT simulator for drivers, teams and corporate guests to use.
The new partnership will benefit Motorsport UK-qualified coaches as well as Motorsport UK Academy Team UK drivers with discounted rates for simulator facility use, simulator hardware and physical training exercises.
Motorsport UK-qualified coaches will be able to take advantage of the Coaching License benefits package, while Motorsport UK will provide a 10% discount to BPS coaches/technicians who wish to complete the L2 Certificate in Coaching Motorsport qualification.
A highlight of this is the ‘Stint Test’, open to Motorsport UK Academy’s 2023 Team UK drivers to replicate the physical demands of motorsport within a simulated racing environment. BPS is also offering Team UK drivers discounted follow-up sessions curated to them as an individual, featuring more simulator time and physical training.
The Motorsport UK Academy will also have a full two days of access (annually) to Base Performance’s impressive facilities.
A further benefit comes in the form of work experience opportunities at BPS, where two Academy members over the age of 18 can complete placement hours with the company as part of Year 2 of the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE).
BPS will identify suitable roles for the two candidates, including simulator build, hardware testing, administrative roles, fitness, coaching, software testing and social media, marketing & PR. The candidates will undertake a week’s induction followed by one day per month working at the facility from April to September.
Motorsport UK Competitor Pathways Manager, Katie Baldwin: “Motorsport UK has recently launched a qualification to support high-quality coaching in motorsport, providing opportunities for coaches to understand and implement the principles of coaching and effective development. We know that simulators are widely used as a training tool for developing drivers and it’s fantastic that Base Performance Simulators will be providing the Motorsport UK Certified Coaches with high-quality facilities to fulfil their coaching role. This partnership will help to further support and develop the UK’s future driving and coaching talent.”
Base Performance Simulators Managing Director, James Guess: As a company whose ethos originated out of a passion to provide an effective and inclusive driver training platform, this new partnership with Motorsport UK couldn’t be more fitting. It hones into our core values and allows us to help further develop the next generation coming into the industry. Simulation is a highly effective tool for drivers of all abilities, and it’s great to finally see this is now being further understood and appreciated as a serious training tool. We are proud to be working with Motorsport UK who, like ourselves, understand why simulation – combined with health and wellbeing – is vital in supporting the drivers and coaches of the future.
The Motorsport UK Academy is a performance pathway for motorsport’s talented young athletes – providing the UK’s future stars with opportunities to learn, develop, thrive, and ultimately unlock their full potential.
