FAQ
Will using a simulator really make me faster on the track?
Using a simulator on a regular basis improves your ability to maximise your time in the real car. With limited amount of time for practice if you turn up at a race or test already dialled into the track you’ll be one step ahead of the competition. A simulator will never replace real time experience but it will enable you to maximise that precious track time.
Isn’t a simulator just a fancy computer game?
Absolutely not. The environment created by a simulator is just like real life. You are sitting in a racing car and the screen is positioned away from you so you can become absorbed into virtual reality. As you drive you can pick out all of the reference points you would use in reality.
Would I use a simulator just for learning circuit configurations?
As simulator technology advances they can be used not just for circuit familiarization and for driver training but also enabling the engineers to use it for vehicle development and refinement.
Will you be there with me on the day?
Yes. If you want to come alone we will run the day for you and it will be fully tailored to your requirements. We will run the simulator in the same way a team would run a race car. You can take the day at your own pace and at the end of the day you can take away your data to study at your leisure.
Can I bring my race engineer?
You are more than welcome to bring your race engineer along. We will still run the simulator but the day will be run in accordance of yours and your engineer’s needs. For regular hire we are happy to show your team how to run the simulator as if it were your own.
Which simulators can I come and use?
We have two at the BPS facility in Banbury: the BPS 4.8 and the BPS 2.0.
Are simulators just for single-seater drivers?
The environment in our simulators is tailored towards single-seaters as they are generically similar between the formulas. You will still gain great insight from a single-seater sim if you are, for example, a GT driver. We will be introducing a GT/Touring car environment for our customers who require this type of vehicle.
I’m interested in buying a simulator. Why would I choose Base Performance?
It’s the knowledge and expertise that we have that sets us apart. The knowledge that Darren Turner has gained from his envious position of working with many of the F1 teams means that he knows what’s important and what gives the best results. That is what BPS has concentrated on to give the best value for money.
If I buy a simulator for my race team or for in my home, how much space will it take up?
This depends on the model you take. BPS 2.0 is designed to be used at home, fitting easily into a garage or spare room. The larger BPS 4.8 requires a room between 20 and 35 square metres, again depending on your requirements.
What is the lead time for delivery?
From deposit to installation is ten weeks for both models.
Can I talk to someone who already has one?
Yes, of course. We can arrange for you to speak to our existing customers.
Can I have a demo?
Yes, it would be a pleasure to see you in Banbury where we can show you the simulators.
